When you want to convert dynamic disk to basic, you would face a big problem that the complex procedures of the way to clone dynamic volume to basic disk. If your data or files are important, it is the essential procedure to clone/copy the data on the dynamic volume to the basic disk. In order to solve this boring problem, you'd better know a more efficient, more convenient, and safer way.

Here, you will be teached step by step so as to you can understand the way better.

Firstly, enter to a computer disk management interface. Clear about the structure of the disks and make sure that there is at least an unallocated space on the basic disk.

From the picture, we can see two dynamic disks—disk1 and disk2. And we have to know that create any volume (spanned, striped, mirrored, and RAID5) should have at least two dynamic disks (except simple volume). Get more information, please read the article—what is dynamic disk?

Then, use the DDC (Dynamic Disk Converter) to finish this operation. With it, you could quickly clone any dynamic volume to basic partition.

Pay attention here, if you choose the method1, it will pop up a dialog box as following picture:

Cannot Convert Striped Volume
Error Information

It will remind you that the program can not convert spanned, striped and RAID5 volume to basic partition directly. So, you should choose the second method.

After choose the method2 - Convert any dynamic volume to basic partition, click the "next".

Source Dynamic Volume
Select A Source Dynamic Volume

Choose the volume you want to clone (e.g. the E: volume) as the above screenshot, click the "next".

Destination Partition
Select A Destination Location

Look at the forth picture, we can choose any one of the unallocated space (the black arrows point), but, when we operate it, perhaps we will find that the capacity of the unallocated space is smaller than the size of the volume you want to copy, so the process will slow down because the way of cloning dynamic volume is no longer sector by sector, is file to file. At this time, you'd better extend the capacity of the unallocated space.

Finish this, click the "next".

It will take you several minutes to accomplish the operation. In fact, it depends on the number of the data files that on the dynamic volume you want to clone, as well as the size of the unallocated space we mentioned above.

According to this easy way, we can finish this work efficiently and quickly copy the data without worrying about losing any longer.
