Ways to Access Foreign Dynamic Disk

An example of foreign dynamic disk

Here is the case:
The hard drive of Windows XP system in my computer is just 80GB, which is not enough for me. Therefore, I reinstall a new hard disk, whose data is from my old hard drive, and it is a dynamic disk. It can be seen in the BIOS and Hardware Devices, and as the prompt says, it will be working rightly, except in explorer. In this case, I open my Computer/Manage/Disk Management, but a problem shows up, because the disk is displayed as Dynamic Foreign. Right click and there are two available choices for you: one is "Convert to Basic Disk" and the other is "Import Foreign Disk". I don't know which one to choose?

Reasons for disk showing as dynamic foreign

Basically, the foreign disk has two reasons. The reasons are as follows:
No. 1: Due to some dynamic disk is from other computer, such as Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit Edition (Itanium), Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003 family Operating System, it is cannot be recognized.

No. 2: Some administrators prefer to install a double-boot with Windows XP Home Edition and another operating system, such as Windows 2000 Professional or Windows 7, while the dynamic disk is not supported on the computer and the two systems contradict with each other.

Ways to fix foreign disk

From the example above, you can solve the problem with built-in Disk Management.

Here are two ways:

No. 1: Import foreign disk

It is necessary to add the disk to your computer's OS deployment in order to access the data on the disk. Open the Disk Management, select the foreign disk and right click "Import Foreign Disks". Then, the invisible and inaccessible volumes will be seen.

No. 2: Convert foreign dynamic disk to basic
